John Wirtz | President

John D. Wirtz has spent just about all of his life around the business of tile installation. His father John Q. Wirtz first introduced him to the industry at a very early age of 3 years old. While most children were making houses with their building blocks, John was wondering what tile should go in them.

Accompanying his father, he spent many weekends throughout his youth working as a tile helper. Instead of taking an easy part time job for some extra cash, as most teenagers do, he ambitiously embarked on a prosperous career. After high school, he joined a union and worked as a tile helper.

By 1972, he and his father decided to go into business for themselves and co-founded Wirtz Tile, a partnership. It was then that he worked many positions. From helper to apprentice to delivery truck driver, he got his hands in everything. Not only did his ability to adapt to whatever position he took on help strengthen the partnership, but the experience he received made John the strong, educated, and versatile man he is today.

In 1974, John D. and John Q. Wirtz co-founded Wirtz Tile, Inc. He then became the vice president of a new corporation. This was a big turning point for John; his responsibilities had increased to scheduling, residential job walks and estimating. These duties gave him a new challenge, while launching him into more of a leadership role.

From 1982 thru 1993, he performed most of the CEO activities. He supervised the contract reviewing, job scheduling, estimating, purchasing and the billings and collections. His reputation earned him the recognition of being a valuable resource. He has been used as an expert witness in court cases and for forensic discovery.

From 1993 to 2008, Wirtz Tile Inc. became Wirtz Tile & Stone, Inc. It was then that he basically took on all of the CEO responsibilities for the company. During this time John served on the Board of Directors for the Southwestern College Foundation Board as Treasurer and Vice President. He also served as President of the National City Employees Federal Credit Union for quite some time.

John has also involved himself in other activities outside of his company. Although his work here has taught him more than most could learn in a classroom, he still enrolled in a CTIOA consultant class. Graduating among the top of the class, he has been given the chance to return and teach plan reading to students. Currently, he is a member of the Southern California Ceramic Tile Association.

John D. Wirtz has walked in many steel-toed boots, wore many hats, and played many roles. Today, Wirtz Tile & Stone, Inc is a proud and flourishing company. The reason behind this is due to the strong people that started it and the devoted people that work for it. This is a company that has and will always believe in hard work, dedication, loyalty, and above all, a lot of laughs.
